The short answer: LinkedIn shows you a rolling window and nothing before it. Company page dashboards are generally capped at 365 days. Personal profile metrics are shorter still, with most views offering 7, 28 or 90 day ranges depending on which number you are looking at. Whatever falls off the back of that window is not available through the interface, and the export does not have a longer reach than the dashboard it came from.
People usually discover this at the worst possible moment. You want to show that this year beat last year, or work out whether the format change you made in spring actually did anything, and the comparison you need sits just outside the range the date picker will accept.
What the window hides
A rolling window is not simply "less data". It removes specific and useful things:
- Year over year comparison. The single most meaningful benchmark for a personal account is the same month a year earlier, which is exactly the boundary the cap sits on.
- The shape of a post's life. Impressions on a post accumulate over days. A tool that reads the final number sees a total; a record that samples repeatedly sees whether it landed in six hours or crept up over a fortnight. Those are different posts and they deserve different conclusions.
- Slow-moving profile metrics. Profile views and search appearances are noisy week to week and only mean anything as a trend across months. They are also among the shortest windows LinkedIn offers.
- Whether a change worked. Any decision worth measuring, a new topic, a different everpost, a rewritten headline, needs a before and an after separated by more time than the window allows.
The part that catches peopleThe archive from "Get a copy of your data" is not a way around this. It contains your posts, connections, messages and profile content, which is genuinely useful, but it does not contain a daily history of impressions, profile views or search appearances. Those live only in the analytics dashboards, under the cap.
Why third-party tools are not automatically a fix
The standard advice is to use an analytics tool, and it does work, with one condition that often goes unsaid: a tool can only show you history it was running for. Signing up today gives you a dashboard that starts today. No vendor can retroactively reconstruct impressions from last March, because the data was never exposed to anyone for long enough to capture.
There is a second condition, which 2026 made expensive to ignore. If the tool keeps that history on its own servers, your record is only as durable as the company. Shield Analytics had done exactly this job well since 2018 and wound down in May 2026, telling users that Google and LinkedIn had made continuing impossible. Its users had a short window to export seven years of history or lose it permanently, and LinkedIn could not resupply it, because of the cap this page is about.
The only two approaches that work
1. Export on a schedule, by hand
Free, tedious, and completely reliable. Put a recurring reminder on the first of every month. Export what LinkedIn will give you for both your posts and your profile metrics, name the file with its date, and keep the folder somewhere you control and back up.
The failure mode is human. Miss two quarters and there is a hole you cannot patch. But if you do it consistently, you end up with something nobody can take away.
2. Have something snapshot it for you
The same idea, automated. The thing to check before choosing a tool is not which charts it draws but two specific questions: does it write a new snapshot rather than overwriting the last one, and where does that snapshot live?
Overwriting matters more than it sounds. A tool that stores "impressions on this post: 4,210" holds one number. A tool that appends "on 3 March it was 1,890, on 4 March 3,400, on 9 March 4,210" holds a curve, and the curve is where the useful information is.
